Center Introduction

The Research Center for Kaohsiung-Pingtung-Penghu Regional Transport Development, was founded in 2015. Since 2010, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has been actively promoting the "Highway Public Transport Development Program (2010-2012)", "Highway Public Transport Enhancement Program (2013-2016)", "Academia to Establish Research Center for Regional Transport Development under the MOTC Subsidy Program" (2017-2018) and "Academia to Establish Research Center for Regional Transport Development under the MOTC Subsidy Program" (2019-2020).
To accelerate the integration of rail and road transportation systems and meet different commuting and tourism needs through the encouragement and induction of strategies such as strengthening the basis and top innovation.

Due to differentiation, various features of public transport developments across regions, and rapid environmental changes (such as diversification of transport tools, rapid expansion of integrated services, rapid development of technology), interdisciplinary communication & cooperation across industries, government, academia and research institutes are the key to improve and re-transform public transport capacity, hoping to promote localized, long-term and characterized public transport developments.

However, local environments, behavior patterns and road safety criteria are not the same, so acting according to circumstances as well as flexible and effective solutions to road safety are the key to improve road safety.

The Research Center for Kaohsiung-Pingtung-Penghu Regional Transport Development utilizes and the restored energy from academia for research development and existing facilities to assist the local government on public transportation development and improve road safety. Further, the center uses the energy from academia to carry out value-adding development to existing industrial technology, strengthening cooperation and mutual learning between research and development teams from industry and academia. The main tasks include:

‧ Design and management of transportation training courses: in addition to Public Transportation Planning and Management, Transportation Safety, the courses should include Science and Technology, Marketing, Product Design, Behavior Analysis...and other relevant implementation classes.
‧ Priority are the in-service personnel of county and municipal governments or relevant implementation units of the Highway Public Transport Promotion Program.

‧ Counsel local government public to proceed transport and transport safety cases.
‧ Provide counselling and receive local government consultation.
‧ Through the industry demand-oriented resource integration and sharing window, the innovation value are deepened, and good management and utilization mechanism of industry-university cooperative resources, processes and results are established.
‧ Other technical research and development that promote training, learning and resources for the county, municipal government and transportation industry, or increase the quality of transportation resources nationwide, integrate domestic academic research output, and coordinate with the policy direction of personnel training mechanism, etc.
